These are the brand new RES model generators. Many improvements over the old RMY series. They are very quiet, they have a sound proof dog house with hospital quiet muffler, and the price is very reasonable making them easy to own. The two wire start allows them to interface perfectly with your OutBack, Xantrex or Magnum inverter.
While the Air Cooled 3600 RPM rebuild duty cycle is half that (3000 hrs) of the slower turning 1800 RPM Liquid Cooled models (6000 hrs), the initial price is also about half. Also when it comes time to rebuild the air-cooled engine, it too, costs less than half the four cylinder water cooled engine to rebuild.
If you have a budget or you don't need to use it constantly, Air Cooled are the ones for you. If you plan on using your generator unit day in and day out, bear in mind this is a stand-by unit. If you need a unit to run alot every day, get a water-cooled model.
The air-cooled generator is a very dependable unit, it way-outshines anything else on the market in it's class. The new KOHLER 12 kW generator is the only generator in its class powerful enough to start and run a typical 4-ton (48,000 BTU) central air conditioner in the event of a power outage. Until now, a 17 kW or larger generator was required to run central air along with all other major appliances
